Q: What is Youth For Tomorrow?
A: YFT was founded in 1986 by Joe Gibbs, a prominent civic leader and NFL Hall of Fame Head Coach of the Washington Redskins. Click HERE for History & Timeline.
Q: Whom does YFT serve?
A: Youth For Tomorrow has served nearly 800 at-risk teenagers. Many of these children have had intense educational, legal or emotional problems that show up in the form of truancy, delinquency, violence and disrespect for authority. We serve children throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, with a large population coming from the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and as far away as South Carolina, New York, Texas, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
Q: How do children come to YFT?
A: Boys and girls are referred to YFT by concerned family members, social service agencies (including foster care), juvenile courts and probation officers. Most residents participate in the YFT residential program from 9-12 months. Foster care placements can be accommodated for longer or shorter periods.

Q: What is the application fee?
A: There is no application fee.
Q: How long does it take for a decision to be made regarding admission?
A: Once the application and all required documents have been submitted, a staff member from our Admissions Office will contact you to arrange an interview with the Admissions Team. After the interview assessment, we will contact you within two (2) weeks to schedule a placement/ intake date.
Q: How long does it take to complete the YFT program?
A: The average length of stay is 9-12 months. However, a resident may be accommodated for shorter or longer periods depending on individual circumstances.
Q: Can a resident receive their high school diploma from YFT?
A: Yes.
Q: Is Youth For Tomorrow a faith-based program? If so, what is expected of residents and their families to practice faith-based principles and to participate in faith-based activities?
A: Youth For Tomorrow is a faith-based facility which models godly principles. We are not affiliated with any church or denomination. We offer various spiritual opportunities for residents which are always at their option and, by YFT policy, never mandatory.
Q: What happens after residents leave YFT?
A: Some of our youth return to their families and graduate from their local high schools. Many go on to attend college under a YFT college scholarship and apply their learning to their chosen careers, including law enforcement, juvenile justice, information technology and small business enterprises. Other graduates serve honorably with our Armed Forces or enter the workforce confident in themselves and eager to prove their character and stamina.
