HISTORY & TIMELINE
1986 - Youth For Tomorrow (YFT) was founded by Joe Gibbs, Hall of Fame Head Coach of the Washington Redskins. Firm in his belief that area boys could benefit from a residential program combining character rehabilitation, quality education, personal faith, and life skills, Coach Gibbs purchased the 134-acre YFT campus near Manassas, Virginia with the help of hundreds of private donors, organizations, and corporations. Original capacity was 24 boys. (Click HERE for information about the YFT Program)
1997 - YFT received accreditation with the Virginia Association of Independent Specialized Education Facilities (VAISEF).
2000 - Expanded campus by purchasing an adjacent 65 acres of land.
2003 - In July, a "pilot" program for girls was launched. By November, the first girls' home opened with girls residing in a newly constructed home with House Parents serving as staff. Three additional homes were opened in 2004 and 2005. The complex is named Wiser Village in honor of donor Bob Wiser, whose inspiration and extraordinary generosity made the dream of opening YFT to young girls a reality.
In September, YFT opened its new seconday school facility—the Joe Gibbs Center for Academic and Physical Education. The Center has 20 classrooms, two computer laboratories, science and life-skills labs, a 2,500 square-foot library, a dining hall, a 180-seat auditorium, and a gymnasium that is regulation-sized for interscholastic competition.
2006 - Due to the efforts of Congressman Frank Wolf, YFT received a grant enabling us to develop and open the YFT Learning Center that provides reading and math intervention and enrichment using a mix of learning technology and hands-on instruction with state-of-the-art learning software.
2007 - We have served nearly 800 children since our doors opened in 1986.
